A car oil filter is a component of a car’s engine lubrication system that removes contaminants from the engine oil. It helps to keep the engine running smoothly by preventing dirt, metal particles, and other contaminants from circulating through the engine and potentially causing damage. An oil filter should be replaced periodically as part of routine car maintenance, typically when the oil is changed. A dirty or clogged oil filter can reduce the efficiency of the engine and negatively impact its performance. Newer cars often have a cartridge-style oil filter that is located in the engine compartment, while older cars may have a canister-style oil filter that screws into the engine block.
